My name is Joanne, and I am delighted to welcome you to my website. Whether you are learning English for school, university, work, travel or simply to feel more confident communicating with others, I am here to help you on your journey.
I created Learn English Quickly (LEQ) to help learners improve their English through personalised online lessons, experienced tutors and a supportive approach that puts each student's individual needs first.
Learning a new language can feel challenging at times, but it can also open up an incredible world of opportunities. My aim is to make learning English an enjoyable, rewarding and confidence-building experience for every student we work with.
Most importantly, I want you to know who you will be working with. Learning a language is a personal journey, and I believe that trust, understanding and a good relationship between student and teacher make a real difference.
A Little About Me – My Background and Experience
Before becoming an English language teacher, I built my career in nursing. I am a fully qualified nurse and have worked in major hospitals throughout London, where communication, patience, understanding and building relationships with people from different backgrounds were essential parts of my work.
My nursing background has shaped the way I teach. I understand that everyone learns differently, that confidence can take time to develop, and that having someone who listens and understands your needs can make all the difference.
I eventually decided to take a career change and pursue my passion for language teaching. It has been an incredibly rewarding journey, allowing me to work with students from different countries, cultures and professional backgrounds.
My teaching experience has included:
Young children in the Philippines: Teaching English to children as young as four years old, using engaging and age-appropriate learning activities.
Young adults in hospitality: Helping students develop the English skills they need to communicate confidently in customer-facing and professional environments.
Taiwanese medical students: Supporting learners with English skills relevant to their studies and future medical careers.
Chinese airline pilots: Working with aviation professionals who need clear and confident English communication for their work.
Since working with LEQ, I have personally worked with more than 100 clients, helping learners with different abilities, backgrounds and ambitions.
Every student has their own story, and I genuinely enjoy discovering what motivates each person and helping them work towards their goals.
My Qualifications
I believe that effective English teaching combines practical experience, the right training and an understanding of how people learn.
My qualifications and educational background include:
TEFL Level 5 qualification – specialist training in teaching English as a foreign language.
A-Level English Literature – developing my knowledge and understanding of the English language and literature.
Nursing studies at university in London – an important part of my educational and professional background.
Combined with my experience in nursing and English language teaching, these qualifications help inform my approach to supporting learners with different needs.
